This update to the DIBELS 8th Edition official materials includes minor changes such as an updated logo and correction of minor errors. While we always recommend using the most up to date materials, if you’ve already printed materials for paper/pencil scoring for the 2025-2026 school year, it’s not necessary to reprint.

The covers, headers, and footers in the Australasian materials now reflect the terminology for years of schooling in Australia and New Zealand while retaining the official DIBELS 8th Edition grade levels. In addition, other minor corrections have been made.

We have just released a new set of brief Administration and Scoring Practice videos for each of the DIBELS 8th Edition measures. You can find all the videos in the Training Video section of the Resources page. These videos are not meant to replace formal DIBELS training but can be used as a refresher for someone who hasn’t administered DIBELS recently, or as extra practice for those who have just been through training.

The most up-to-date DIBELS materials are marked with a 2023 date. These can be accessed through the Testing Materials page. The most significant change is an update to the PSF directions to change one of the example words. In addition to that there was inconsistency with the sounds for vowel-nk sounds in NWF scoring, those were all updated to make the /ng/ sound. There were some items updated to make the measures more culturally sensitive – for example items specifically talking about Native American communities.

The DIBELS 8th Edition team provided the IDEL materials on this website as a courtesy for customers who were uploading IDEL data to the DIBELS Data System. However, the DIBELS Data System recently discontinued support for IDEL, and because we no longer have IDEL experts on staff at the University of Oregon, we determined that it would be best to retire the materials from our website.

DIBELS 8th Edition percentiles and Zones of Growth have been updated. The national sample represents performance of students after a period of unprecedented disruption and challenge to typical instructional practices resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
